MELODIUM - TRACKS FROM THE PAST (CDr)
An absolutely lovely collection of older work from Laurent Girard, most of which (if not all) is unreleased. Recorded between 1999 and 2003 it concnetrates on his playful, melodic and superbly scrunchy sound which he's moved away from a little in recent times. You'll find sweetness, beauty and an innocent, childlike wonder in these tracks and it's testament to Laurent's keen ear for a cute tune that they sound so good and so fresh. 20 tracks altogether and not a dull moment in sight. Great stuff and good to hear some quality electronica sounds in this style.
MELODIUM - VILNIUS (CDr)
A self-released CDr from Laruent Girard which comes at you with a likeable and warm sound that's classically pretty and crunchy, yet manages to sound fresh at the same time. Lovely melodies and a nicely simple, but effective series of rhythms complement the sweet chord structures and playful tones to give you an album that's at once vintage but full of vim and vigour. Really reminds me of Laurent's older work for labels like Static Caravan and Audio Dregs and that is, of course, a very good thing indeed. Splendid.
MELODIUM - FLACANA FLACANA (CD)
It's been a long time since I've come across any Melodium material and here, at last, is a lovely new CD from Audio Dregs. Simplistic, effective and full of warmth, the combination of guitars, pianos and electronics is soothing and deep whilst retaining a powerful edge when it gets into the more shoegazey guitar moments. Lots of tracks and lots of variety to keep you more than occupied. Welcome back Melodium.
